History

Hard Hatted Women began in 1979 when three women - a telephone repair technician, a steelworker and a truck driver, formed a support group for tradeswomen.  HHW was volunteer driven from 1979 to 1990, with a programmatic emphasis on education, outreach and advocacy.  By 1990, HHW had established an office and hired an Executive Director.  Hard Hatted Women is the only community non-profit organization dedicated to supporting women in high-wage, nontraditional, blue collar careers.  HHW is also a member of the national organization, Tradeswomen Now and Tomorrow.  Click here for highlights of specific activities performed throughout the years.
