Adult Education
Hard Hatted Women's education and training programs are designed to break down the barriers that prevent women and girls from pursuing high wage, high skilled careers. In spite of significant employment opportunities in the construction and technical fields, and hourly wages of between $14 and $75 an hour, less than 4% of the nation’s plumbers, electricians, carpenters, welders, and automotive technicians are women.
The needs of women trying to enter trade and technical careers are very specific. Educational biases, discrimination in hiring, sexual harassment, low self esteem, and personal barriers such as childcare issues are just some of the challenges that women face. HHW programs offer a supportive, safe environment in which women can build skills, confidence and a belief in the attainability of a non-traditional career. Career development and job coaching services complement our skills training to support graduates secure and retain a high wage career. Once employed, HHW support programs help women successfully manage work/life challenges.
