Youth Education
Educating Girls about nontraditional career choices has been on the agenda since HHW’s beginnings. Started in 1998, our educational programming is designed to provide students and teachers with experiences and resources that counter career-related gender bias and sex role stereotypes. Hands-on programs led by women already working in nontraditional fields give girls the chance to assemble and dismantle machinery, work with tools, and learn about careers to which they have little real-life exposure. Hard Hatted Women hosts a summer trades, skills and arts camp for middle school girls called Rosie’s Girls. HHW also participates in a partnership with Max Hayes High School Vocational Education Department. HHW also helps organize mentoring and role modeling between women/spokespersons of non-traditional occupations and young women.
